Consistency is King!
Eric Marcinkowski and Team Striker have been the most consistent team to fish the King
Of The Lake series. For their efforts in 2009 they were crowned “King Of The Lake” Overall
Champion. While fishing 10 tournament days and boating 47 out of a possible 50 fish team
Striker managed to average 18.65 per fish over the course of the season.
“You can’t win this thing without a good team” said Eric! “My teammates Jim Spicer, Kevin
Davis, Andy Savage, Casey Prisco and Greg Gill worked hard and played hard which made
these events a lot of fun. We have a great time in and out of the boat, which makes each
weekend something to look forward to”
Striker started the series off with a bang. A strong 2nd place finish missing the top prize by a
single point. They boated 25-30 fish each day, but lost a few that could have put them over the top. “That’s fishing” They were excited as they set themselves up to be 2nd in the King Of The Lake series.
Wilson was a different story, only 2 weeks later but things changed and turned out to be the
toughest for this crew with a 2 fish day on day one and many missed opportunities. Day 2 they put their five fish in the boat early in the day that allowed upgrading to begin. “Spin Doctors and Flies were going deep and we were finally hooking good again”. At the end of both days they were sitting 5th place and 75 points behind the leader.
With bad weather looming during
the Whitby tournament it made
things very difficult for pre fish and
establishing a pattern. Eric decided
to fish east on day one and while
landing some good Kings he decided
on day 2 to go west where the bite
was had at a faster pace. They
struggled all day long and by 1 pm
they only had 3 fish. With having to
be in the pier heads by 2 pm it didn’t
give much time to put it together but
guess what... Rigger rod fires and the
fight is on and while fighting this fish
they put the boat in neutral to bring
in other rods in order not to run out
of time and the other rigger goes and
now chaos has set in!
“10 minutes felt like an eternity” On the way in the team wanted to crown teammate Kevin Davis the Mayor of Whitby
for ths contributions that weekend. “Kevin really helped us get over
the top this tournament” With this finish they were back in the lead going home to
Oswego for the next leg.
Striker was looking forward to this event as it was in their home Port of Oswego, N.Y. The Broadwell
family helped take this event to a new level. Oh yeah! Fishing was great. Many big fish were weighed
in and Striker did not disappoint the home crowd by winning the event. They found fish and put them
in the boat consistently all weekend long. This win gave them the lead in the race for the King Of The
Lake. When asked about his win “ The Oswego win is the most memorable, having friends and family there to celebrate our victory is something we will always remember”
Returning to the west end of the lake and having beautiful weather was a great way to end the series.
They again found fish on day one and knew that with 2 good days they would be on top. At the end of
day 1 they knew they had a decent lead to take to championship and celebrated early... Maybe a little
too much. It made for a short night and an early morning. Day 2 was tough on them. They managed
to put 5 fish in the boat and take their King Of The Lake Title and a respectable 5th place finish in the
Fall event. This team never gave up and battled back.
The Captain says “ this is the most fun I have
ever had fishing tournaments, high level of
competition, experiencing new ports, meeting
new people and seeing new places, this is what
the King Of The Lake is all about” 2010 is going to be a great year and we can’t
wait to see everyone on the tournament trail!
In conclusion, on behalf of his team Eric
wanted to mention “our team is grateful for the
efforts that Yvan,Gord, and John put together
and make this tournament series what it is;
the best on Lake Ontario… and grateful to
all sponsors Dreamweaver, Atommik, Rapala,
Scotty, Wilson, Oswego, Whitby, Port Dalhousie,
Kevin Jerge,
